Ettore Bugatti's sole foray into aircraft design, the Model 100 Racer (top). Bugatti built the 100 with chief engineer Louis de Monge to compete in the 1939 Deutsch de la Meurthe Cup Race but failed to complete it in time to enter the race. The plane spent World War II in a French warehouse; Bugatti died in 1947 without returning to work on it. Moved around to various museums who restored it in fits and starts, it eventually came to rest at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin which completed its restoration and now has it on display.

A replica (100P), funded by Kickstarter, is nearing completion. To assist with fundraising aviation artist Phil West painted First Flight (middle), portraying the Model 100 with Bugatti's contemporary automotive masterpiece, the Type 57 Atlantic (bottom).
